In 2023, 16,217 of the 26,434 undergrads enrolled received financial aid. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley meets 70.68% of the demonstrated financial need for undergraduates. The average financial aid package for a full-time, first-year student is around $11,341.14 a year.

Your college or career school—not the U.S. Department of Education—distributes your financial aid. If you have questions about why your aid hasn't been paid out yet, or why it wasn't the amount you expected, contact your school.

To be eligible for federal student aid and college financial aid, a student must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). This generally consists of maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (i.e., at least a C average) and passing enough classes with progress toward a degree.

What is the UTRGV payment arrangement? ›

The Payment Plan consists of four payments; the first one due by the initial due date and three subsequent payments due on the first business day of each month after the semester has started. This plan is available only during the fall/spring semesters and does not cover prior unpaid balances.

Grants: Grants are based on financial need, so they tend to run out first. The Pell Grant, a notable federal grant, is the only exception—it will always be available.

Generally, your grant or loan will cover a full academic year and your school will pay out the money in at least two payments called disbursem*nts. In most cases, the school must pay at least once per term (semester, trimester, or quarter).

Over 17.6 million FAFSA forms are completed each year, according to the Department of Education. However, some of the available money is handed out on a first come, first serve basis. So, it's a good idea to file your application sooner than later to help pay for your education.

Accounts that are more than 3 days past due will incur a late fee of $50 monthly until current. Failure to make payments by the specified due date could lead to removal from Housing and Residence Life.
